Kreayshawn in DI$COUNT for Complex magazine

(via DI$COUNT)

Why she's inspiring: I don't think I've ever seen anyone give less of a fuck about when or how or why they are wearing what they're wearing. She doesn't care what goes together or what makes sense together, she just dresses how she feels. She's a total wildcard, yet at the same time she has such a distinct style. In those respects, I'd like to think we have some things in common. What's more is that she wants to pass on this attitude to her fans by discouraging them from becoming carbon copies of her or any other artist they may love. Instead, she encourages them to "be different and follow their own lane" and "go find their own style, own voice, and own brand" (as stated in her interview with Complex) and whether you're a fan or not, I think we can all appreciate that sentiment.

Why I love her style: Her style has so much duality, and somehow there is harmony in that duality. For those of you who don't know, the styles I tend to gravitate toward are the classiest and the trashiest, especially when they're together in the same outfit. Anyone who can successfully sport those two ends of the spectrum is my hero by default. (I'm using Madonnna and Kreayshawn as examples for this post's purposes.) With that in mind, she is so many eras of class and trash all at once. She's '90s hip hop (chunky bamboo earrings, big sneakers, Adidas and Nike merch), '80s classy slash Madonna-style '50s revival (the hair, the make-up, the high-waisted hot pants pictured above), '80s trashy, modern-day trashy (crop tops, nose ring, Mickey Mouse tattoo, ironic "call me" knuckle tattoos, okay pretty much all of her tattoos). She's so adorable and innocent looking, yet she's rapping about selling Adderall to high school kids. Like, I just want to pinch her cheeks, but I don't want the giant blunt she is smoking to fall out of her mouth.

Basically, all my thoughts can be summed up in the lyric "I'm lookin' like Madonna but I'm flossin' like Ivana... Trump." Like, you can just hear how much of a fuck she doesn't give about anything (her clothes or her lyrics) in that line. Anyway, see what I mean? Madonna and Ivana are both so classy and trashy at the same time and she's always lookin' like one or flossin' like the other. Moreover, the line "young Kreayshawn grimy but I feel so elegant." What's better than being grimy and elegant at the same time?
